Find some of today's news in newspapers or on the internet.

 

Visit one of the following news portals:


BBC Asia Pacific
BBC South Asia

Asia Daily

 

 You may want to pick another news media from the list at "News Sites"

  • Look at the front page of a newspaper from your country today
  • Make a quick description of today's top stories - are the any differences between the different newspapers?
  • Describe the web site from which you have chosen your Asia top news
  • Also try to find a piece of top news from a particular country in Asia. You can find links at http://www.google.com or http://www.yahoo.com by inserting the name of the country and 'news' in the search string (i.e. Pakistan news)
2. Coverage of Asia in the daily paper
  • Go through a national newspaper from your country, page by page. In your class, you may want to divide yourselves into groups and every group should concentrate on a different newspaper
  • Find all articles about one or more countries in Asia - cut them out
  • Write briefly in your own words which subjects the articles deal with and which country or countries in Asia the articles are about
  • Make a collage with the articles

  • Describe in your own words what the word "manga" means

Take a look at a couple of popular Asian youth TV stations:

  • What kind of TV programmes is most popular in your country?
  • Make a list of five TV programmes that you like. Explain why
  • Discuss good and bad aspects of television
