1. Food and table manners
- Describe what people in your country hold to be "good food" and "good table manners" and write a contribution and send it to the debate forum on Black Box's homepage: http://www.blackboxes.org.
- How many dishes do you know? List them. (Which person or which group knows most dishes?)
- Why is it unhealthy to eat the same thing every day? What is the risk of doing that?
- Vimala from India does not like "bitter gourd", but he eats it anyway because it is healthy. Make a list of dishes that you don't like, but are healthy.
- Which healthy kinds of foods do you know? Why are they healthy and what are they good for?
- Find information about "rice" in the material called "The Global Crop" on the Internet (copy the link to your browser): http://www.askasia.org/frclasrm/lessplan/l000008.htm. The material contains background information, illustrations, photos and exercises that are very accessible and easily can be used in the lessons at school.
2. Vietnamese and Indian cooking
- Find Vietnam and India on a map; find facts about the two countries and make a list with at least five important keywords about both countries.
- Make a list of the most important ingredients in Vietnamese cooking.
- Take a look at the Indian recipes and make a list with information about which spices that are likely to be used in a typical Indian dish.
- Describe a typical European dish.
- Look in a cookbook. Describe the colours of one of the dishes.
- Make yourself an Asian dish. You may want to use an Indian recipe or a recipe from another Asian country.
