Hinduism

Hinduism is the oldest of the large religions

Most Hindus live in India but is also a significant religion in several other Asian countries. A good way of knowing that you are in an area with many Hindus is the smell of incense. Hindus have many god and place flowers and lighting incense everywhere to please the gods.

The Hindu gods

The three main Hindu gods are Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Another one is Ganesh - the one with the elephant head. Ganesh is very popular; maybe because he is the god of happiness and good luck.

To be Hindu is a way of life

Hindus perceive their religion as a life style. Sanatana dharma - which means "the eternal law" or "order" is what Hindus call their religion. The word dharma refers both to a teaching about redemption, inner liberation as well as to a teaching about the human being's social duties.

The caste decides social interaction

Hindus are born into castes, and every Hindu belongs to a certain caste. The castes divide Hindu society into various social classes and there are distinct rules for social interaction between the castes. One of the most important rules prohibits a Hindu to eat with or marry a person from an inferior caste than one's own.
